What is the
In-ordinary Residency?
The In-ordinary Artist Residency is a focused, 6-month program designed to give Black men a dedicated, distraction-free workspace to create. Artists work out of specially dedicated art studio space in Baltimore, MD, building bodies of work that explore the everyday, the extraordinary, and everything in between.
We believe that the “in-ordinary” moments of Black life— quiet mornings, barbershop conversations, family dynamics, joy, grief, vulnerability, and rest; are powerful, worthy, and deserving of artistic attention.

This residency invites participants to:
Create freely without having to justify their process
Explore identity, emotion, and experience with honesty
Push back against stereotypes by centering their full humanity
Build community with other Black male creatives
